Ward 7 Parent Council
The Ward 7 Parent Council is a group of parent representatives from the area family of schools. It meets approximately every six weeks with the Board trustee to exchange information on issues of concern to parents in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). High Park Alternative School must have one representative (with one back-up representative). Their responsibility is to attend the Ward meetings and report back to the school parent body.
The Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) invites each ward in the TDSB, along with the Board’s Community Liaison Groups, to send a representative and an alternate to PIAC meetings. PIAC reps serve a two-year term. PIAC is the first broad-based parent group with meaningful access to influence TDSB decision-making, and it really does represent a place where a person can make a difference. Last year, although we spent a large portion of our time working out our protocols and procedures, we also put forward our first recommendations to the Board: supporting parents on staffing committees; and calling on trustees to refuse any further cuts to programs and services in the budget crisis. We have also established very strong working groups in Communications, Research, Best Practices, and School Councils. PIAC meets roughly every 6-8 weeks at the Board office at 5050 Yonge Street (easy subway access right at the North York Centre subway station).
