PPP committee update ( Philosophy, Programming, and Policy) This year, the PPP committee ( Philosophy, Programming, and Policy) put forward a new model to help put our community's ideas into action (see chart below to see what happens after you fill out the NEW IDEA SUBMISSION FORM) With this model, anyone can bring forward a new initiative or suggest a problem to be solved (We have even made a form to make it super easy - which you'll find by clicking this link: {{NEW IDEA SUBMISSION FORM}} The ideas and feasibility are discussed at one of the 3 parent planning sessions (and committee meetings throughout the year) and a plan for actions and next steps are proposed by people present. If you can't come, you can still propose an idea by filling out the form! This year, the PPP committee put out a survey to try and gauge what was important to the parent community. (Survey Results to be shared here before Thursday - will notify when we find the right format for sharing./viewing!!) . What we found after looking at the results....Mindfulness and STEM led the way: As the most important topics The PPP committee got to work submitting a proposal around getting mindfulness into our classrooms. (See proposal, which was also shared at The June GM): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lEKFCbURm1j89Pagl-PhO_rJgJlrReb3Ig8Gw3HM30E Teachers, parents, and administrators worked together to find out how we could create an even more mindful school climate. Teachers were interested in knowing more about the Mind up program https://mindup.org/ and a mindfulness PD workshop offered through an organization called everyday mindfulness http://www.mindfulnesseveryday.org/pdeducators.html. With teacher backing, your Parent council voted on providing financial support to these projects to make these mindfulness based initiatives a reality for FALL 2017. We are feeling very excited by how these mindfulness tools can reduce stress, help to calm our nervous system, and further contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment. At the last PPP meeting held on June 21, 2017, teachers released the school wide theme for next year: "'Designing Our Lives’: How can we use Art & Design to help improve our lives and the lives of others." Teacher initiatives with parent support for next year also include whole school projects such as: 1. Re-designing the ‘mini staffroom’ as a mindful / greenspace 2. An “Art Market” as a Spring Showcase 3. Whole School Field Trip in the FALL 2017 to launch the theme, to The Science Centre Inventorium http://www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/inventorium/ *See eNewsletter for the Teachers Minutes for this meeting So that's the PPP update for the year. Over the summer, think about how you can support what's happening or what you want to happen and bring your ideas to the first PPP Parent Planning Committee in the Fall (TBA). It sure is wonderful being a part of such a caring, passionate, and thoughtful group of parents. Steph, Jess, and Joel Here's what happens 'behind-the-scenes' when your form/idea comes to us...
